We have our Statue of Liberty too !! It's located on the Swan island, in the 15th arrondissement. It was launched the 15th november 1889 by Auguste Bartholdi and it's turned towards New York.

"Scream !" - Ralph Nielsen & The Chancellors

This very charming & welcoming gargoyle is a detail of the Saint-Séverin church. Because of its story, this church will be the object of another post, later. The gargoyles of the church date from the 15th century.

"Doomsday Clock" - The Smashing Pumpkins

This sculpture is in front of the St-Lazare railway station. This is the work of Arman, a french artist who died in 2005. This sculpture is called "L'Heure De Tous" ("Everybody's Hour" may be the translation). You can have more information about his work on his website.

"Paths Of Victory" - Cat Power

Today, the Place du Chatelet. In the center of this public square, there is a foutain, La Fontaine du Palmier ("The Palm-Tree Fountain") and a column. This column was erected in 1808 to celebrate the victorys of Napoleon and the sculpture on the top represents the Victory, with the crowns of laurel in each hand. On the shaft of the column, you can see four allegorys : Prudence, Temperance, Justice & Force. (informations founded on Wiki and Paris199.lartnouveau.com)

"Meet Me In The City" - Blues Explosion

This fountain (the Innocents fountain) is located in the center of Paris, in the district of Chatelet-Les Halles. it's the work of two architects, Jean Goujon between 1546 and 1549 and Augustin Pajou in 1788. Augustin Pajou did the 4th part of the fountain following its installation in the center of the place. Nowadays it's a meeting-place when you want to see someone (but it's crowdy, mostly during the week-end !!).

"Genius" - Kings Of Leon

Today, a parisian monument wich is ay Bastille place : the Genius of the Bastille and the bronze column.
This bronze column, known as the column of "July", have been raised in the center of the place between 1833 & 1840. It is 52 meters high, and has a 4 meters in diameters. It ends with a balcony surmounted of a genius which holds in a hand a broken chain and in the other a lit torch. (parisrama.fr)



The Genius represents "the Freedom which flies away by breaking his irons and by sowing the light". (parisrama.fr)
The Bastille place is also one of the important parisian point for the public demonstration, as the Republique place (a post about it next week).

I've found this sundial in a little street in the district of the Marais (4th) and I had to take the photo between the bars of the doorway of a kindergarten.

I like this sculpture, very simple. I don't know why there is a sculpture of The Virgin Mary in the corner of these streets : perhaps a symbol of protection ? (the same kind of post here).

These are the photos of the Soubise Hotel.
This hotel located in Francs-Bourgeois street have been bought in 1705 by the Princess Of Soubise and rebuild by the architect Delamai on the hotel of the Duke Of Guise.

This is a museum and you can have a some rest in the garden, it's very peacefull.

"I Wish" - Babyshambles

A little view of the "Colonnes de Buren", a monument wich created a big polemic in 1986. You can make a wish while launching a coin on the column ; if you touch it, your wish will be fulfil (I didn't try).

"In The Garden" - Johnny Cash

This is a photo of the garden of the Hôtel de Bethune-Sully, built between 1625-1630. It's a very quiet place, near place des Vosges.
